Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? by Taylor Swift
Author Ashley Lynn Simon, MS
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. Then the "circus life made me mean".
People, when they tell me I'm "so nice" confuse me. The anger I held for so long destroyed my inner perception.
Like the desperation for perfectionism.
Then the "circus life made me mean".
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. From friends and family.
Childhood, when they dismiss my needs and hush my emotions. The loneliness I disassociated from for so long recreated a future fantasy.
Like the words of empty promises.
Then the "circus life made me mean".
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. At the new school of my dreams.
Adolescence, when they used me and forbade me. The self-sabotage only grew as my smile grimaced from the projected insecurities of others.
Like the patterns of toxic tragedies.
Then the "circus life made me mean".
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. For only a fortnight, but you all sunk my ship.
Young adulthood, when they didn't believe the abuse and pedophilia cursed upon me. The self-loathing strengthened as my voice and soul diminished in the harassment of others.
Like the echos of all the other "me too's"...
Then the "circus life made me mean".
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. The kind I've done to myself all these years.
Adulthood, when I let the ropes of my past tether me to a neverending dread. The despair that robbed me of my childhood fantasies.
I let the "circus life" make me mean.
Dismissed. Hushed. Silenced. Neglected. Sabotaged. Was once my remedy.
Restoration remains forever in healing.
So, let me ask... Are you afraid of little old me?
You should be.
In the past, I let them win, again and again, until their victory remained engrained in every futuristic strategy.
Not any more. I'm forever free.
If you are afraid of little old me now, then you always have been.
You were one of them.
